TOOL is the world’s first floating lab for entrepreneurs and change agents across ocean industries, sustainable solutions & tech.

INTRO FILM: Welcome onboard our mission to empower the next generation!

Explore our redesigned veteran ferry, inspired by Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic. The project brings actors together across communities and industries. We welcome startups, youth organizations, environmental actors, research & academia, as well as corporates, into our family of collaborators.

The lab will function as a complimentary resource for existing land-based startup hubs across industries, building bridges with other leading ocean clusters along the coast of Norway. The community can utilize it both for activities docked in the port, voyages and shorter trips.

The lab will serve as a meeting place for relevant international actors visiting Oslo, and accommodate practical testing for participants of accelerator programs and youth/student programs focusing on ocean related opportunities.

We believe that the ocean industries need to be completely emission free and waste free, regenerating life and resources in the ocean as part of the business models for the future. TOOL is an open canvas for testing ideas and working on radical innovation across the community, but we have identified some key prioritized areas where we welcome current and new family members to join:

PHASE 1: Conversion to Bio-fuel (November 2019)

PHASE 2: Hybrid test-lab for clean energy solutions across sea, solar, wind, land power, batteries, a.o. (2020-2021)

Showcase Gallery: Explore products made from ocean plastic, and eco-friendly alternatives replacing single-use plastic

CleanSounds Beach Actions: Oslo region beach cleanings co-organised with our environmental partners, with surprise concerts or standup, provided by the music industry’s own movement

Ocean Waste Collection Test Facility: Planned in collaboration with Empower and other partners across the plastic solution value chain

From Waste to Products: 3D printing & creation activities onboard

TOOL aims to promote and use sustainable, local produced and/or ocean-based food, while also exploring a mindset that reduce waste and explore a circular valuechain onboard.

Onboard Composting: We will implement local compost of all our bio-waste

Waste Management & Recycling: We will collaborate with a range of actors to ensure demonstrating and sharing best-practice on how we reduce and handle our waste

Urban Gardening & Vertical Farming:

TOOL welcome other local urban farmers and youth initiatives, to come onboard and do urban gardening and farming onboard
